Policy on Equipment Damage

Boy Scouts of America - Troop 401 - Steubenville, Ohio

Background

The Troop has invested a considerable amount of money in its equipment used for camping and other Troop activities. It is important that scouts always treat the Troop equipment with care and respect. When breakage or damage occurs due to negligence or abuse, scouts need to be held accountable for those acts.

Non-accidental Damage

When damage occurs to Troop equipment due to negligence or abuse, the responsible scout or scouts shall pay for repairs and/or replacement of the item(s) damaged. The scout will not be allowed to participate in Troop outings until payment for the damaged item(s) is made.

Accidental Damage

When damage occurs to Troop equipment due to accidental conditions, the Troop will pay for the repairs and/or replacement of the item damaged.

Duty to Inform Quartermaster/Scoutmaster of Damage

A scout is always on his honor with regard to informing the Quartermaster and Scoutmaster of any damage for which he is responsible for, non-accidental or accidental.
